LFMC UPCOMING MEETING
When: Thursday, February 16, 2017
8am – 930am
Host: RG Media (Register Guard)
Location: 3500 Chad Dr, Eugene, OR 97408
Topic: Return on Investment
The Guard was first established in 1867 by J.B. Alexander. It passed through a succession of owners until Alton F. Baker, who moved west with his young family from Cleveland, Ohio, purchased it in 1927. Nearly three years later, Baker acquired the competing Register and merged the two into the Eugene Register-Guard (from registerguard.com). Production on the current building started in 1992 and completed in 1994 with the second phase finalizing in 1996. The Register Guard is the largest existing newspaper in the state with it's own machine shop onsite. RG Media prints for both The Regsiter Guard and The Statesman Journal, with nearly 100,000 papers being printed a day and millions of moving parts that all are maintained by the in house staff.
If you are a local facilities, maintenance and/or risk professional and either have not applied for
membership or haven't renewed your information this year, please do so at your earliest
convenience HERE. To read and understand a bit more about the ideology in the formation of our
peer driven group, you can read the article published through Facility Executive HERE.
Mark Schmidt and the facilities management team have been working through several areas of lighting assessments and upgrades including a section of interior lighting that were modified HID exterior lights which were having complications. By converting several of this lighting sections to LED they have been able to offset the rising cost of energy as well as extend the overall life on the electrical infrastructure of the building by reducing the loads. Mark and the RG Media facilities maintenance team are continuing to work with trusted vendors to generate creative solutions for cost savings, preventative maintenance and efficiency upgrades to keep the long term vision in perspective. Another area that Mark was able to identify quickly into his tenure with The Register Guard was to initiate preventative maintenance plans for several systems within the building, by doing so the team was able to identify areas where equipment was not running at optimal capacity and many simple changes led to significant savings. Join Mark and our gathering of local facilities, maintenance and risk professionals for a tour of the RG Media facilities and a peer led discussion of return on investment concepts, come prepared to share your experiences.
