Local Facilities Manager's Connection (LFMC) is a gathering of facilities, maintenance and risk management professionals. Our motto is "Connect. Collaborate. Conquer." We achieve these goals by meeting monthly (connect), sharing ideas and resources regularly (collaborate) while we root each other on to conquer in our professional roles. The facilities management community is global and we enjoy hearing from our partners throughout the world. Sometimes our little section of the planet even makes it into these resources to share our stories, such as this most recent article published by LFMC founder and director, Jon Isaacson, in the April 2017 edition of FM World Magazine.
Take a peek at this article published in the FM World Magazine in April of 2017 which grabs some lessons learned as well as best practices from criminal justice and applies those to facilities management - A Bit of RNR: What FM Can Learn From Probation.
If you subscribe to Facility Executive's monthly magazine you will have noticed that Beaverton School District was featured in an article entitled School District Tracks Space Use. Kathy Gray is the facilities use coordinator for the district, which is the third largest in the state of Oregon, and her team devised a means to utilize cloud based tools to improve use insights and controls for building requests and access for after hours events. Through this program the organization is reducing confusion and costs through communication and utilization of applicable resources.
"Utilizing an online form and changing the approval process makes facility scheduling faster and saves school principals a lot of time. The district also changed the fee structure based on visits with peer institutions. The new, tiered fee structure now charges more for fields and auditoriums versus classrooms. We are still early in the process, but the district expects to recover a majority of costs especially by recouping custodians’ overtime rates."
Local Facilities Manager's Connection (LFMC) recently covered this topic in a tour of the Northwest Christian University where some of their access controls were the result of several test programs with facilities, IT and their trusted vendors. You can read more about that discussion HERE and join us for our next meeting by getting the information HERE. We are proud of our Oregon facilities innovators and managers being recognized for their hard work! If you are looking for opportunities to connect with local facilities peer and collaborate for ideas as well as resources, join the LFMC email list and visit us for our next meeting. You can read our LFMC article on networking featured in Facility Executive HERE.
We have some fun news as our Local Facilities Manager's Connection (LFMC) Director Jon Isaacson was published in the most recent print publication for FM World. The article tilted Powerful Points For Your Next Presentation covers getting buy-in for your projects as a facilities professional whether you are presenting to internal executives or networking with external groups. Whether we recognize it or not, as facilities managers we all are in sales - marketing our facilities values, creating buy-in for our preventative maintenance budgets and developing collaboration for our management vision. In our modern markets, developing our soft skills as facilities, maintenance and risk professionals is as important as our technical proficiencies. We hope that you continue to find value in networking with local peers in our LFMC monthly meetings as we build up our facilities community. You can discover more resources available through FM World through their website, on Twitter @FM_World or through subscribing to their publication.
