On the checklist of resources for facilities managers, one will struggle to find an event that will match the value provided by Building Operating Management's NFMT Vegas event being hosted at the Mirage Events Center on November 1-2, 2016. The National Facilities Management and Technology (NFMT) Vegas event is FREE to attend. As local facilities practitioners, we have a healthy sense of skepticism so we reached out to the event organizers and wanted to confirm that we heard correctly regarding the promotion that conference attendance was FREE. We wanted to be sure that if we make the trek out to Las Vegas that we wouldn't find surprise invoices waiting for us at home or additional loops that we would have to jump through at the entrance for NFMT Vegas. Trade Press Media Group and NFMT education staff were expedient and gracious in answering our additional inquiries regarding this event.
LFMC: Do we understand correctly that the conference is FREE to attend, no hidden fees?
NFMT: Yes, all of the content on Tuesday and Wednesday is completely free to attendees
LFMC: How is NFMT / Trade Press able to put this event on for free?
NFMT: We use the revenue generated by the expo hall vendors to subsidize the expense of the conference. Unlike other events you won't find a plated lunch or coffee breaks during our events but we do provide superb educational content.
LFMC: We notice that each day is packed with relevant education and presentations, are there topical tracks that attendees can follow that will help them decide which courses to attend?
NFMT: We break the conference down into 8 conference tracks: Building Automation, Energy, Internet of Things, Leadership, Operations and Maintenance, Sustainability, Safety and Security and Technology. On our website each session is also identified as beginner, intermediate or advanced.
LFMC: How long has NFMT been operating and who are the forces behind this great resource?
NFMT: National Facilities Management and Technology (NFMT) was launched in 2001 in Baltimore, MD as a companion to our print magazines and websites. After the success in Baltimore, we decided to launch a second event on the West Coast, NFMT Vegas launched in 2008. NFMT is owned by Trade Press Media Group, the same organization that produces Building Operating Management Magazine and Facility Maintenance Decisions Magazine and Facilitiesnet.com website.
LFMC: How does membership enhance the individual experience as well as access to resources for facilities managers throughout the year?
NFMT: The NFMT membership program was created to be a companion to the live event, with access to the slides ahead of the conference, additional benefits and upgrades onsite (like complimentary coffee and shorter registration lines), and post-event access to a library of over 100 videos filmed at NFMT events throughout the year.
LFMC: Are there other events being put on by the NFMT team?
NFMT: In addition to NFMT Vegas, we produce several other events including Critical Facilities Summit October 3-5 for mission critical facilities (this is not a complimentary event), NFMT 2017 our flagship event in Baltimore March 7-9, NFMT High-Performance Buildings and Workplaces May 17-18, 2017 in Dallas, TX, and NFMT Orlando November 14-15.
